NVIDIA Quadro 4000 for Mac vs. ATi Radeon HD 5870 for Mac

Just had a chance to compare NVIDIA Quadro 4000 for Mac (2GB memory) and ATi Radeon HD 5870 for Mac (1GB memory) in games. I didn’t bother much making a “real” and precise benchmark — if you need that, visit specialized websites.

Hardware: Mac Pro 4,1, 1CPU 4 cores @ 2.66GHz, 6GB RAM, Intel 320 160GB SSD.
Screen resolution: 2560 × 1600.
Operating system: Mac OS X 10.6.8.

StarCraft II (1.4.3.21029), all settings maxed out:

  • NVIDIA Quadro 4000: avg fps 29.
  • ATi Radeon HD5870: avg fps 50.

Unigine Heaven 3.0 (2012-03-07), medium settings:

  • NVIDIA Quadro 4000: avg fps 2.
  • ATi Radeon HD5870: avg fps 40.

Conclusion? Quadro 4000 definitely sucks for games. (And yes, I know that it is a professional videocard that wasn’t designed for games).
